Synthesis and Characterization of Hydroxyapatite from Green Mussel Shell with Sol-Gel Method

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is a major component of bones and teeth. HAp widely used to repair, fill, extend, reconstruct damaged bone tissue. for dental implants, so it necessary synthesize HAp. synthesis can utilize green mussel shell waste as calcium precursor. This research synthesized from using the sol-gel method. The controlled parameter was pH, variable being compared heating temperature at 900 1100 °C. products were characterized by an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscope. results showed that formed alkaline namely pH 11. XRD pattern Hap along with type A apatite carbonate, octacalcium phosphate, α- β-tricalcium phosphate. crystallinity increased raising prolonging time. quality will improve increasing crystallinity, also raise amount formed.
